Yoshimura testing

Picture
I have completed testing and tuning with the  Yoshimura  full  exhaust  system on the 2021 Mt09 and am very happy with the results.

Thank you to the awesome customer that ordered a new exhaust and sent the Yoshimura to me!!

The system I have here is an early production piece.  I have heard there are some improvements on newer examples, but it is impossible to ignore the welds on this example.  They are not clean and there are some large blobs.  I was a bit surprised.   It's a shame, as the finish from the coating on the pipes  looks excellent and  otherwise the exhaust  is very good.

It did not include an o2 extender.   The extender has now been added to the parts list.  New ones should include it.

The instructions are online and easy to follow.  I found the system straight forward to install even though it is a little different than the others I have tested and added a few minutes to the install time.   Once mounted it is solid with excellent fit to the bike and to the different pieces on the system.

There have been reports of people who aggressively corner touching  down the canister.  This is why my customer ordered a new exhaust.   I have not experienced this in my normal street riding, even with scrubbing the sides of the tire to the edge.

The o2 bung accepts both  narrow  and wide band o2 sensors with an included insert.

Install took me an hour and 30 minutes from start to finish.   I removed the top radiator mounting bolts which allowed me to slide the radiator off the bottom mount.  I also loosened the bottom radiator bracket  bolt so the bracket could move around which eased install.    The header comes as one piece and was easy to install.  I like the black anodized thick header flanges.   I used new exhaust gaskets but think you would be fine reusing the stock ones as they are very thick.   I used dabs of grease to hold the exhaust gaskets in place when mounting the header tubes.       Once the exhaust was loosely  on the bike , I moved from the back of the bike forward to tighten all the bolts.   Many people do this backwards and start at the front of the bike which can give you alignment issues.

My highly calibrated bathroom scale weighed  the stock exhaust at 16 lbs with the   Yoshimura weighing in at 9.5  lbs with all the hardware for a savings of 6.5  lbs.   Nice!

There is an optional DB killer that is removable and made a nice decrease in noise level for those interested in that type of thing, dyno run below

First is stock bike vs  Yoshimura exhaust with stock ecu (no tuning):    Nice gains across the range with no areas below the stock bike

next lets look at  the Yoshimura  with stock ecu (no tuning) vs the  Yoshimura  with my flash.    Even more gains across the board
Picture
Now lets compare the  stock bike  vs   the Yoshimura exhaust and my flash.    Really impressive gains across the entire range!

Then I put the DB killer in to test how much power is lost.  Not to bad really, especially for one that really does knock down the noise level

Next I tested the DNA stage 2 filter ( red)  vs my airbox mod with sprint filter (blue)     If you have looked at my other testing results you will be used to seeing this pattern.   The DNA lid works better through a narrow range in the middle ( probably the most used rpm's when riding a twisty road) while the Spint drop in filter with air box mod ( see my intake testing) works better at the bottom and top

This is a great performing system that is not overly loud even with the DB killer out , removes a nice amount of weight from the bike and looks really good also.  Nice job Yoshimura!
