Popping on Decel and block off plates is something I get asked about ALL THE TIME
No, you don't have to install block off plates
People think popping on decal is an indication something is wrong, It is not. Let me explain
Every stock bike with an ais or pair system on it pops on decel from the factory. This is 99% of bikes being made today, an FZ07 being an exception. You just can not hear it because of the catalytic converter and the stock canister. These systems are placed on the bike by the factory to burn off any unburnt fuel on decel. It is completely normal to have unburnt fuel when the throttle is closed. This is why they added these systems to clean up emissions. They do not effect power output, they do not effect the actual air fuel ratio when combustion in the cylinder takes place and most importantly they are not bad for the bike. If they were the factory would not add these systems.
Our bikes are fuel injected and what the air fuel ratio is when the throttle is closed is irrelevant to how the bike runs when the throttle is opened at all.
To limit the popping as much as possible you want block off plates. The popping can not occur if you do not have fresh air getting into the system either from the AIS or from an exhaust leak
Even with the AIS disabled from the flash the AIS valve will leak some and pop
here is a video discussing the AIS/PAIR valve system more
I have a discussion about o2 sensors on my youtube channel
