First up for testing on the intake side is the DNA stage 2 lid and filter and modifying the stock airbox .      All runs posted are after making tuning adjustments to optimize the set up

I tested the DNA lid first.  This is a full new lid that replaces the stock lid and air filter.  The lid has a large square filter built into the top of it
Picture
There is even a new cage to hold your ecu ( not shown in picture).  The lid installed easily, taking  around 30 minutes to install.   On the dyno the new lid showed a nice gain in the middle where we ride the most.  Averaging over 6 hp gains from 6-8k rpm.  It did loose a little hp at the top of the curve.  You will have to decide if the price of admission and slight loss on top are worth the gains in the middle .  Sound wise on the dyno above 8k there was a loud harmonic that was strong enough to distort the picture on the tv I have mounted a few feet to the side of my dyno.     Riding the bike on the road I could not hear the harmonic or feel the slight loss on top but could feel the added midrange power .

The first dyno run is Akrapovic carbon exhaust with stock lid and filter vs Akrapovic exhaust with DNA lid.  Blue is DNA lid red stock lid.

Picture
2nd dyno run is all stock bike vs Akrapovic exhaust with DNA lid.  Looking at this curve and the gains from stock its easy to forget that little bit of hp missing from up top
Picture
Next up I tested some modifications to the stock airbox lid.  The stock lid makes the air travel through 3 snorkels on the top and travel all the way to the bottom of the air box and then curve back around to go through the filter and into the motor.  Initially  I shortened the snorkels and removed the snorkel add on thats on the top of the air box.  Just a note I did clean up the cut on the snorkel before installing it so it was smooth with zero burrs or roughness.
On the dyno I only saw slight gains from 3-5k rpm and multiple places that had loses.  I reinstalled the top snorkel and that run was almost identical.    Red is stock lid green and blue is the 2 steps of modification
Picture
Since I completes the first round of intake testing, I have changed out the exhaust to the Akrapovic Titanium (that I'm almost finished testing) so all the numbers for the drop in filter testing are using that as a base line.    I did do another run with the the new exhaust and DNA stage 2 so it would be easier to compare these results.  All of the runs were optimized with that set up.   This took a lot more time than I anticipated.
First let's do a visualization of the two filter.  The DNA has more area with filter.  I do prefer the more rigid feel (no chuckling) of the DNA filter surround over the Sprint, but I much prefer the maintenance on a dry filter ( Sprint) vs oiled ( DNA)
Picture
First up is the DNA drop in filter with the stock air box lid ( Blue) vs the stock filter and lid (red).  Nothing to really right home about.  1/2 a hp here and there but not much
Picture
Next I tested the DNA filter with the air box lid as modified above (blue) vs stock filter and lid (red)  .   To my surprise the DNA filter matched with the airbox mod showed gains pretty much across the board with a nice little boost from 3500 -5500
Picture
Based off of the amount of air filter element DNA vs Sprint I expected the DNA to perform better.    I was a bit surprised when I next tested the Sprint filter with the stock air box lid(red) vs stock filter and lid (blue).  Modest gains across the board.  The Sprint actually performed a little better than the DNA
Picture
Next I added the modified lid to the Sprint filter and again saw an increase in performance over the filter alone.
Picture
None of the results are really groundbreaking or OMG I must do this but when modifying a vehicle and looking for every little bit, knowledge is power.    I put the DNA stage 2 lid on next so I could see a direct comparison of the DNA stage 2 lid (red) vs the Sprint filter with air box mod (blue) on the same set up.  When looked at like this it is hard to call one set up a winner.   The DNA lid only has an advantage from just past 5k to just past 7k.  This is an area that is probably the most used on the bike so for a pure street bike you may want to choose the lid.   If you're doing any kind of racing where you will be keeping the bike in the upper rpm's then the combination of air box mod and sprint filter is probably what you want.  No one would blame you if you just stuck with the stock lid and filter.  The drop in filters alone did not require any fueling modifications.  Both the DNA stage 2 lid and the combination of drop in filter with the air box mod both did require specific fueling.

If you do decide to perform the air box mod, drill out the six plastic rivets I am pointing to in red on the picture to the left.  The top portion will then easily lift off
