Spark Testing

Picture

I have completed testing and tuning with the  Spark  full  exhaust  system on the 2021 Mt09

Thank you to the awesome customer that ordered a new exhaust and sent it  to me!!

This is the titanium system.  The quality is excellent, thick high-grade titanium, with clean welds and great fitting joints.

It did  include an o2 extender.   .

There are no  instructions included.   I found the system slightly tricky to install.   So I will include some pictures and instructions .  Once mounted it is solid with excellent fit to the bike and to the different pieces on the system.

The o2 bung accepts only  narrow  band o2 sensors and I needed to use an adaptor to fit my wide band for tuning.

Install took me 2 hours to install from start to finish.   I removed the top radiator mounting bolts which allowed me to slide the radiator off the bottom mount.  I also loosened the bottom radiator bracket  bolt so the bracket could move around which eased install.

I then fitted the header flanges to the head with springs pre attached.  ONLY HAND TIGHTEN THEM

I then fitted each individual header tubes, using the cross over tubes to show me each location.  I had a spring puller tool.  One was not included and will be needed for the install.   I attached each spring from the header flange to the header tubes
Picture
I then fitted the collector to the header tubes.  I used the position of the spring attachments to show me alignment.  This was a bit difficult to get the collector on and to fully seat on the collector.  I tried installing the collector on to the header tubes first and mounting it to the head, but I could not get this to work.   I had some exhaust paste I used to provide some lubricant and make the pipes slide easier.   I then attached the 3 springs.

The next piece is the beautiful mid pipe.  This slid on easy and lined up with the mounting point.   There are 2 aluminum bushings to put on each side of the rubber mount included. Put the bolt in and again HAND TIGHTEN and attach the 2 springs
Picture
last piece to install is the canister.   I slid it over the mid pipe and installed the 2 springs.  I then used a rag to give it proper clearance away from the swing arm
Picture
Now tighten all the bolts working from the back of the bike forward ending with the header flanges.  I now have plenty of clearance between the swing arm and the canister.  DO NOT FORGET TO WIPE THE WHOLE SYSTEM DOWN WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL PRIOR TO THE FIRST START.  This prevents oil from your hands causing stains on the tubing
Picture
My highly calibrated bathroom scale weighed  the stock exhaust at 16 lbs with the   Spark  weighing in at 7.6  lbs with all the hardware for a savings of 8.4  lbs.   Nice!

There is an optional DB killer that is removable and made a nice decrease in noise level for those interested in that type of thing, dyno run below

First is stock bike vs  Spark  exhaust with stock ecu (no tuning):
Picture
next lets look at  the Spark  with stock ecu (no tuning) vs the  Spark  with my flash.
Picture
Now lets compare the  stock bike  vs   the Spark  exhaust and my flash.  Nice  gains across the range
Picture
Then I put the DB killer in to test how much power is lost.   A drop in power as expected
Picture
Next I tested the Spark exhaust with DNA stage 2 filter ( red)  vs my airbox mod with sprint filter (blue)     If you have looked at my other testing results you will be used to seeing this pattern.   The DNA lid works better through a narrow range in the middle (probably the most used rpm's when riding a twisty road) while the Spint drop in filter with air box mod ( see my intake testing) works better at the bottom and top

Spark Exhaust Technology Yamaha MT-09 "Grid-O" full racing exhaust system. Constructed with a racing style silencer, titanium link pipe, heat shield available stainless steel header or titanium Spark R&D has been working extensively on the Japanese motorcycle from Yamaha enhancing the design, sound and performance of the 3-cylinder bike. Spark's long working experience on 3-cylinder engines, for example in Moto2 was an excellent starting point for sizing the manifold in the best possible way and then combining with a high-performance racing catalyst to imrove the performance of the bike. The collectors derived from competition have a compensator and 3-in-1 pipe as the Moto2 systems. During the development great attention was paid to the sound, which is extremely dark at idle speed and maintains the spectacular 3-cylinder engine sound note. Spark full system improves performance and gives the motorcycle a dark and enveloping sound as well as a unique design. Handcrafted in Italy. Ultra lightweight approximately 4.2kg (40% lighter than stock). Dyno Tested for maximum horsepower increase over stock. Racing Version for Maximum Performance. For perfect performance, throttle response and durability, ECU remapping is recommended.
