M4 Testing

​I have completed testing and tuning with the  M4  full  exhaust  system on the 2021 Mt09 

Thank you to the awesome customer that ordered a new M4 exhaust and sent it  to me!!



The finish from the coating on the pipes  looks excellent and the  fitment   is very good.  It is solid with excellent fit to the bike and to the different pieces on the system. 

 It does  include an o2 extender.    

The instructions are easy to follow.   

 
The o2 bung accepts both  narrow  and wide band o2 sensors with an included insert. 


Install took me an hour and 15 minutes from start to finish.   I removed the top radiator mounting bolts which allowed me to slide the radiator off the bottom mount.  I also loosened the bottom radiator bracket  bolt so the bracket could move around which eased install.    The header comes as one piece and was easy to install. .   I used new exhaust gaskets but think you would be fine reusing the stock ones as they are very thick.   I used dabs of grease to hold the exhaust gaskets in place when mounting the header tubes.       Once the exhaust was loosely  on the bike , I moved from the back of the bike forward to tighten all the bolts.   Many people do this backwards and start at the front of the bike which can give you alignment issues.  

With the black coating on the pipe I was extremely carful not to scratch it and after install I heat cycled it twice but starting the bike and letting it idle for 5 mins.  The next day I did the same thing.  Then the next day I started really riding it. I do not know that this is a needed step but I wanted to be sure the coating was fully baked on before I started riding it and it seemed like an easy precaution to take . 

My highly calibrated bathroom scale weighed  the stock exhaust at 16 lbs with the   M4  weighing in at 11.5  lbs with all the hardware for a savings of 4.5  lbs.   

There is no  DB killer.   I found the system to be a reasonable sound level.  The 2 mufflers doing a decent job of quieting it down  


First is stock bike (red) vs  M4  exhaust with stock ecu (no tuning)( blue) :  This is the first pipe I have tested that the new pipe had an area below the stock pipe pre tuning.

next lets look at  the M4  with stock ecu (no tuning) (red) vs the  M4   with my flash ( blue) .  I found  gains across the entire rev range

Now lets compare the  stock bike(red)  vs   the M4  exhaust and my flash( blue).  Gains across the entire range , though they are small from 5500-6750 rpm ​

Next I tested the DNA stage 2 filter ( blue )  vs my airbox mod with sprint filter (red)     If you have looked at my other testing results you will be used to seeing this pattern.   The DNA lid works better through a narrow range in the middle , the area that the pipe was struggling with the stock airbox.  The Spint drop in filter with air box mod ( see my intake testing) works better at the bottom and top, but only slightly in this case.

YOU WILL GET AN INITIAL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AFTER THE FLASH. IT WILL CLEAR ON ITS OWN AFTER APPROX. 20 MILES AND A KEY CYCLE. AFTER IT CLEARS THE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION AS NORMAL
