Dominator Testing

Picture
I have completed testing and tuning with the Dominator GP3  full    exhaust  system on the 2021 Mt09 and am very happy with the results.   I will be adding the midpipe from the high mount Hp5 system soon to also test that

I was a bit surprised that at the price point of this exhaust   the  quality was as high as it is.  The welds are clean and it fit well , overall I am very happy with it.   This is the first exhaust for the 21 I have tested that does not have cross over tubes. Which may be contributing to the loudness but certainly did not seem to effect power output.   It did not include instructions  and  without the crossover tubes to use as a reference for cylinder location it took me a little longer to install this exhaust than the others.

It does include an o2 extender but the o2 bung accepts only narrow band o2 sensors requiring an adaptor to be used for a wide band  when tuning.   No adaptor is needed for the stock o2 sensor.

Install took me an hour and 30 minutes from start to finish.   I removed the top radiator mounting bolts which allowed me to slide the radiator off the bottom mount.  I also loosened the bottom radiator bracket  bolt so the bracket could move around which eased install.   I installed all 3 header tubes on to the collector then bolted the tubes to the head.  I had minor  issues putting  them on as they want to rotate and move and it took a couple tries to get the header tubes in the correct locations on the collector.   I used new exhaust gaskets but think you would be fine reusing the stock ones as they are very thick.   I used dabs of grease to hold the exhaust gaskets in place when mounting the header tubes.   I used a spring tool I had  as one was not supplied.       Once the exhaust was on the bike , I moved from the back of the bike forward to tighten all the bolts.   Many people do this backwards and start at the front of the bike which can give you alignment issues.

My highly calibrated bathroom scale weighed  the stock exhaust at 16 lbs with the  Dominator weighing in at a svelt  6 lbs with all the hardware for a savings of almost10  lbs.  The lightest system ive tested so far by 4 lbs!!!

This system uses a small short canister under the bike that would be more of a pre muffler on most systems.  There is no baffling in the exhaust tip.  The result is a system that is LOUD but performed excellently

First is stock bike vs  Domintor exhaust with stock ecu (no tuning):    Nice gains across the range with no areas below the stock bike

Picture
next lets look at Dominator  with stock ecu (no tuning) vs Dominator  with my flash.    Even more gains across the board
Picture
Now lets compare stock vs  Dominator exhaust and my flash.    Really impressive gains across the entire range!
Picture
Next I tested the DNA stage 2 filter ( red)  vs my airbox mod with sprint filter (blue)
Picture
This is a great performing system but it is loud.  I am anxious to see if the longer mid pipe and second canister can quite it down without hurting performance.  Stay tuned..........

if your not familiar with my intake testing that can be seen here
Intake Testing
Because Dominator makes a few configurations with longer mid pipes and a second canister to be as thorough as possible with my testing I ordered a long mid pipe from dominator and mounted a second canister to it that I had here.  This would represent really as far away as you can get from the GP3 system from dominator.  I believed that there would be a negligeable difference between the 2 systems, but I have been wrong before and when  I told people this it seemed they didn't really believe me so......

First here is a picture of my mounting of  the longer midpipe and second canister.  It looks pretty cheesy but worked to do my testing with.

Picture
First I tested the stock air box and filter and went on a data logging ride.  Looking at the data there was no adjustments to be made.  Then I put the bike on the dyno and spun the drum and.....
Picture
The runs are nearly identical with the longer midpipe actually showing a very slight advantage of area under the curve.  To be fair there can be that much variation from one day to the next without changing the set up.   Armed with this knowledge I made an executive decision to not go through all the work of testing the other 2 intake setups.  It takes a lot of time.  I am making 3 different flashes for every exhaust I test.  To be honest I'm glad this worked out like this.  Lasty I would like to point out that this is 5 different exhaust set ups that I am showing gains that are between 7-9 hp from the stock bike.  I have had some people question my numbers because they are more than some others are showing with exhaust changes.   With the collection of data, I have at this point and consistency of the numbers it proves that it was not a fluke.
