MT10 Fuel Mileage Tracking
After having a fair number of potential customers reach out to me with concerns about the fuel mileage after the flash I decided to track mileage and to create an optional flash that maximizes fuel efficiency below 7k rpm and 50% throttle
This may seem easy as most would say just lean it out by 10% and you will get 10% better fuel mileage. Unfortunately, is it not that easy. As a motor is leaned out it will become inefficient and leave fuel unburnt in the combustion chamber. Not the best for fuel mileage. This also will give the motorcycle a feeling that is buzzy and harsh and it will not make good power or have good throttle response. Obviously not any types of things we want
In the past I have found that my method of tuning with using a combination of data logging for smaller throttle openings and dyno tuning for larger throttle openings results in a tune that is efficient and gives the responsiveness and feeling I am after with the bike. Before I get to detailed about how this optional tune will work Ill start with fuel mileage tracking to see if I am able to make a worthwhile improvement over my normal flashes.
I will try to be as consistent as I can with my mileage tracking as far as conditions and how I am riding the motorcycle. For these rides
I will stay under 7000 rpm and below 50% throttle for the most part.
I will not accept poor throttle response or poor running conditions ( it would not be efficient anyway)
I will use a full tank of gas
I will fill the tank till the fuel level is just over the bottom of the filler neck after it settles for a couple seconds
First tracker is with my normal decat flash
I was able to go 147 miles before the light came on and the bike took 3.553 gallons of fuel for an average 41.37 mpg
stay tuned for progress!
As a side note I decided to do this after installing the decat exhaust, if you have the stock exhaust it would be very easy for me to keep the tuning parameters stock below 7k and 50% throttle. This would have zero effect on full throttle performance or any performance above 7000 rpm or 50% throttle. The bike would have stock throttle response and efficiency if kept below these parameters and still be full tuned above them. If this is something that you would like please just put it in the comments on your ecu information sheet when you send in your ecu.
